Please share a memory of Frances to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Funeral services for Frances Ruth LeMay Chastain, 81, of Lovington, NM will be held on Monday, August 31, 2020 at 10:00 am at New Beginnings Church with Caden Jameson officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Kirby-Ratliff Funeral Home. Frances was born on September 10, 1938 to Theodore Pernell Jr. and Lonnie B. (Davis) LeMay in Lewisville, Arkansas and she finished her race and ran into the arms of Jesus on August 28, 2020. She married the love of her life, Glen Chastain on January 8, 1955 in Lewisville and they spent 61 years of life and love together, putting on display a true love story for all to behold. Frances and Glen loved country music and often traveled across the country to attend concerts. They loved dancing the two-step and you could always find them holding hands. They had two beautiful daughters who were their pride and joy. Frances was one-of-a-kind. She was a loving woman and had the heart of a servant toward everyone she met. When she wasn't busy serving as a Girl Scout Leader, Cheerleading sponsor, XI Alpha Mu member or volunteering at Nor-Lea Hospital Women's Auxiliary, you could always find her in her home with people around her kitchen table painting with the Woodshed's painting crew or filling hungry bellies. In more recent years, it was hosting meetings for Widows Marching Forward. She was a faithful member of New Beginnings Church and served tirelessly to provide meals for functions and families in need and was well known for her "signature" large pot of beans. Frances held various jobs over her lifetime but was most remembered for "The Woodshed". Glen was the woodworker and Frances was the painter. Many in the Lovington community are sure to have some of her unique pieces in their homes and fond memories of them in their hearts. Frances was a homemaker and a seamstress. She canned fruits and vegetables, wrote poetry, made crafts to be painted and was an excellent cook and baker. Frances and Glen were known for their cookies- on- a –stick and satisfied many a sweet tooth throughout the seasons. They had the unique ability to draw people into their home and their hearts and their kitchen table was always filled with people of all ages and all walks of life. No one was ever turned away and there was always room for one more. Many people counted Frances and Glen as family, parents or grandparents. They were loved by all and they loved all. They left behind a legacy of love and a multitude of people who are better for having had the privilege of knowing them. Preceding her in death were her parents and her husband. Surviving her are her two daughters: Debbie and husband Steve Wier and Glenna and husband Gary Jameson, both of Lovington, NM; One brother: Ted LeMay of Wake Village, TX; four grandchildren: Caden and wife Ashley Jameson, Kelsi and husband Jonathan Hernandez, Aaron and wife Crystal Ayala, Matt and wife Christy Ayala; sixteen great-grandchildren; extended family and a host of loved ones and friends. Visitation will be held on Sunday, August 30, 2020 from 12 noon until 6:00 pm, with the family in residence from 4:00-6:00 pm at the funeral home, 1106 North Main. Memorial or donations may be sent to Star Hospice, 1000 N. Dalmont in Hobbs, NM 88240 in memory of Frances. Condolences may be sent to www.kirbysmithrogers.com.
