Obituary of Jean Scruggs Sevier

Jean Sevier age 99, passed away on April 11, 2025 in Lovington, New Mexico. She was born in Watrous, New Mexico on August 24, 1925 to James and Sarah Scruggs. Cremation has taken place and graveside services will be held at Tiptonville Cemetery in northern New Mexico, where her family ancestors have been laid to rest since the early 1900's. Jean married in Las Vegas, New Mexico and later moved with her family to the Knowles Community in Lea County, New Mexico. The family purchased a home in Lovington in 1966, where she started working as the receptionist at the Lovington Daily Leader newspaper office and took over the bookkeeping for the next 40 years. It was also during this period that Jean volunteered as a "Pink Lady" with the Nor Lea Hospital auxiliary gift shop for 25 years. Preceding her in death were her parents, 6 sisters, 4 brother, her son Gary of Lovington and son-in-law Bill Jackson of Phoenix, AZ. Survivors include her daughter Donna Jackson of Phoenix, AZ; sons Marvin (Theresa) of Weimar, TX; James (Leta) of Artesia, NM; Randy (Susie) of Mustang, OK; and daughter-in-law Connie Sevier (Gary) of Lovington, NM. Jean was blessed in her long life with 14 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren and 12 great-great grandchildren. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Lovington.
