Ree Hoyl, 72, of Lovington passed away on August 12, 2025. Ree was born on October 3, 1952 in Lovington, New Mexico. Ree married Mike Hoyl on January 17, 1986, they were married 40 years. Ree enjoyed going birding with her son they would travel great distances taking pictures of all kinds of birds. She enjoyed doing puzzles. Ree loved animals especially her dog Argent.
She is survived by her husband: Mike Hoyl; her children: Christye Bailey Whitmore, Ryan Webb, Justin Hoyl, and Jayson Hoyl and wife Megan; grandchildren: Alan, Bailey, Presley, Jordan, Skylar, and Tori; and one brother: Doug Bailey and wife Nancy. She will be greatly missed. They will be no services per her request.
When I'm outdoors for more than ten minutes I start picking up rocks. I weigh the merits of pebbles by some fickle and mutable aesthetic and either pitch them back or pocket them and stack them among hundreds of their brethren on the counter behind our kitchen sink like fortifications against an army of tiny invaders. If these kitchen-counter pebbles had memories, if they could unpack their lithic histories and unroll them across the floor like scrolls, they'd show us flashes of heat and crucible of the Earth, epochs of darkness, the heavens spitting snow, the rain, then light. After I'm dead, someone will have to decide what to do with all the stones I've stockpiled. Pitch them over the backyard fence or dump them into a box or wall my carcass in with them. Eventually everything I know – my children, my friends, this language, these hills – will be something else.
