Sammie Williams Sr. Obituary

Our beloved father and grandfather, Sammie Williams, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, November 18, 2025, at the age of 80.

Sammie was born on October 8, 1945, in Slaton, Texas, to Julie Powell and Willie Williams. He proudly served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. Sammie enjoyed the simple joys of life—fishing, and watching western movies. One of his greatest pleasures was spending time with his great-great granddaughter, Lei'lanii, lovingly known as his "Honey," especially when they shared cookies together. Above all, Sammie loved being surrounded by his family. He had a sharp wit, a playful spirit, and a way with words—if Sammie wasn't teasing you, he'd say you weren't human. He wanted each of his grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren to know just how deeply he loved you all.

Sammie's memory will be cherished by his brother: Tommie Williams (Fletcher Mae), daughter Bridgett Paynes (Dewayne); his sons Michael Williams (Jessica) and Samuel Williams his step-daughters Latoya Royal, Tasha Wilson and Tejuana Wilson ; his grandchildren Jovante' Stidam (Laura), Justin Williams (Melissa), Jayson Williams, Jasmine Williams, Jacuqeylnn Lopez, Sa'von Williams, Alonso Williams, and Artisha Williams; great-grandchildren Ky'reana Williams (Ladarius), Se'Nevaeh Williams, Jovalen Williams, Davante' Stidam, Byron Stidam; and a host of additional great- and great-great-grandchildren who loved him dearly.

He is preceded in death by his wife Debra Williams; his son Sammie Williams Jr.; his parents Julie Powell and Willie Williams; his brothers Johnny Johnson, Joe McBride, Edward McBride Sr.; and his great-grandson Fourt'a Williams.

Sammie will be deeply missed and forever remembered for his humor, his stories, and the love he shared so generously with his family.
