Ruthe Charleene Lennox Obituary

On November 19, 2025, Charleene Lennox met the Lord Jesus after a lengthy illness. Ruthe Charleene Lennox was born on July 1st, 1939, in Fort Sumner, NM, to Herman and Gazelle Mitchell. The family lived in House, NM and later in Clovis, NM. Charleene graduated from Clovis High School in May 1957. She enrolled in NM Highlands University that summer. On August 24, 1957, she and Cecil R. Lennox were united in marriage. They were married almost 62 years, until his death on August 9, 2018.

Charleene and Cecil made their home in Albuquerque from 1960 until 2017. They were active members at Crestview and Del Norte Baptist Churches during that time. In 2016 they moved to Lovington to live with their daughter-in-law. They later resided at Good Life Assisted Living in Lovington. They joined First Baptist in Lovington in 2016.

Charleene found great joy in music and in God's Word. She gave private piano lessons in her home for several years, and played the piano and organ for church services. She loved to play and sing hymns, which were also enjoyed by others. The staff and residents at Good Life fondly remember her playing hymns on the piano there. Charleene accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior as a young girl. She was active at church in many ways: teaching Sunday School, serving in the nursery, helping tutor children from a nearby school, helping with children's choir, playing handbells, and singing in the adult choir. She was also involved in Bible Study Fellowship in Albuquerque for many years, serving as a discussion leader and assistant teaching leader.

Charleen received a B.S. in home economics and mathematics, as well as a M.S. in computer science from the University of New Mexico. From 1985 – 2005 she worked in robotics at Sandia National Labs in Albuquerque. During her career she met U.S. presidents Jimmy Carter and Ronald Reagan.

Charleene was preceded in death by her parents, three sisters, and her son, Richard C. Lennox. She is survived by her daughter Christina R. Solley of Odessa, TX; her son Robert C. Lennox and wife Michelle of Tucson, AZ; and her daughter-in-law Martha Jo Lennox of Lovington. She is also survived by three grandchildren: Krista (Calem) Macha of Lubbock, TX; Matthew (Ashleigh) Lennox of Midland, TX; and Stephen (Leah) Lennox of Lubbock, TX, as well as four great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, a host of cousins, and many friends.

The family is thankful for the care given to Charleene by Drs. Coombs and Duba, the Enhabit Hospice staff, and the staff at GoodLife Assisted Living in Lovington.

A graveside service will be held on Thursday, January 15, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at Sunset Gardens Memorial Park in Albuquerque. A celebration of Charleene's life will take place on Saturday, January 17th, at 10:00 a.m. at First Baptist Church in Lovington.
