Willie Herbert, a devoted man of God, loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend, was born on December 2, 1954, in Ferris, Texas, to the late Catherine and Frederick. He entered eternal rest on April 9, 2026.

Willie accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior at an early age and remained steadfast in his faith throughout his life. He was a faithful and active member of Third and Central Church of Christ, where he served as an elder. He was deeply committed to the Lord and lived his life as a reflection of God's love—always kind, giving, and full of compassion for others.

Willie was truly a blessing to all who knew him. He had a heart for people and loved everyone he encountered. His warmth, wisdom, and gentle spirit will be remembered and cherished by all.

Willie was also known as one of the greatest Wildcats, a proud 1973 graduate of Lovington High School. He continued his education at Northwestern Oklahoma State University, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree and was a member of the baseball team.

On December 1, 1978, Willie married the love of his life, Luella, in Alva, Oklahoma. Their love was strong, faithful, and enduring—a true example of commitment and partnership.

On August 7, 1982, they welcomed their first child, LaToya, and shortly after moved back home to Lovington, New Mexico. March 27, 1986, they were blessed with their son, Jason Jackson. Willie was incredibly proud of his children and grandkids and never missed an opportunity to share their accomplishments with anyone who would listen.

Willie loved the Dallas Cowboys, Oklahoma (OU) football, and most of all, spending time with his family. He didn't need validation from anyone—his joy came from seeing his children and grandchildren succeed. He was their biggest supporter, their loudest cheerleader, and their constant source of love and pride.

He was preceded in death by his parents: Catherine and Frederick; his brothers: Charles and James "Bug Eye"; and his sister: Saundra, also known as "Too Sweet."

He leaves to cherish his memory his beloved wife, the love of his life, Luella; his son: Jason Jackson; his daughter: LaToya and her husband, Derrick; his cherished grandchildren, affectionately known as "his three P's," Peyton (P-Hooks), Paxtyn "Packy," Kenken, and Parker (Park and Sticky), who brought him immeasurable happiness; and his honorary sons-in-law, Jorge and GW.

Willie is also survived by his siblings: Freddie Jean, Phyllis, Mary Ann, Charles Wayne, Gloria Jean, Frederick, Randy, David, Bobby, and Diana; along with a host of brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, extended family, and dear friends who were like family.

We know we are not ready, but we know you got your crown.

His legacy of love, faith, and kindness will live on in all who were blessed to know him.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 25, 2026 at 1:00 pm at 3rd and Central Church of Christ with David Stewart officiating. Burial will follow at Lovington Cemetery.
