Henry Buford O'Neal, Jr., 85, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, April 13, 2026, with his family by his side. He was born on September 27, 1940, in Waco, Texas, to Lessie (Pool) O'Neal and Henry Buford O'Neal, Sr.Henry leaves behind a loving family who will cherish his memory always: his two daughters: Beverly Wofford and Bianca O'Neal (Omar Quiroga); four grandchildren: Kimberly Clarke (Troy Clarke), Preston Bryant, Amari Quiroga, and JioVanni Quiroga; and four great-grandchildren: Jazmin, Jozlyn, Jada, and Troy Clarke. He is also survived by his brothers: Cleveland and Sherman Henderson, along with a host of nieces and nephews.Henry will also be lovingly remembered by his special friend Annie Louise Session, in addition to, Burt Patterson, Iesha Austin, and Bernadette Johnson, whom he helped raise as his own.


He was preceded in death by his beloved wife: Margaret O'Neal; his two sons: Henry B. O'Neal III and Frank Mims, Jr.; his mother: Lessie O'Neal Henderson; his father: Henry Buford O'Neal, Sr.; and his stepfather: Cleveland Henderson. He was also preceded in death by five brothers: Jimmy O'Neal, Sr., Robert O'Neal, Dell O'Neal, Billie Ray O'Neal, and Kenneth Henderson; and two sisters: Lena Mae Thomas and Albertha Evans.


Henry was a hardworking and devoted man whose life reflected perseverance, service, and care for others. As a teenager he was active in Golden Gloves Boxing and won a Golden Gloves Award. He attended Lovington High School and served in the Army National Guard from 1959- 1967. He was employed by Ferguson Construction for 33 years. He also owned and operated a barbecue restaurant, The Speckled Hen. After retiring from Ferguson Construction, he continued his entrepreneurial spirit by running a barbecue truck called Ole Henry BBQ and he later worked for eight years at the Lea County Cheese Plant. He found great joy in fishing and hunting quail and dove. He will be remembered for his strong work ethic, his love for family, and the many lives he touched through his kindness, guidance, and steady presence. His memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.


Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 2,2026 at 11:00 am at Third and Central Church of Christ with David Stewart and Sherman Henderson officiating.


Burial will follow at Lovington Cemetery.
