Obituary of Lena Mae Thomas

Funeral services for Lena Mae Thomas, 70, of Hobbs, NM will be held on Saturday, June 15, 2019 at 2:00 pm at Third & Central Church of Christ with Sherman Henderson officiating. Burial will follow at Lovington Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Kirby-Smith-Rogers Funeral Home. Lena was born on February 17, 1949 in Waco, Texas to Henry Buford and Lessie (Poole) O'Neal and passed away on June 9, 2019 in Lubbock, TX. Lena was raised in Lovington, NM and went to school here. She attended NMJC and received her LPN degree working in her career at Lea Regional Hospital, Hobbs Health Care and in earlier years she was employed at Good Samaritan in Lovington. She was a determined lady that put herself through nursing school, raised her kids by herself and also took in other family and friends to raise or give a helping hand. She was a very generous and giving person that was very well thought of in the community. She organized the family reunions at Chaparral Park and enjoyed all family gatherings, even though she did like her own space. She loved going to the casino and playing bingo. She attended Taylor Street Church of Christ in Hobbs. Preceding her in death were her parents; five brothers: Jimmy Lee O'Neal, Robert O'Neal, Dell O'Neal, Billy Ray O'Neal, and Kenneth Henderson; two sisters: Albertha Henderson and Jean O'Neal; one grandson: Gary Nash Jr. Surviving her are two sons: Raymond Nash of Hobbs, NM and Gary Nash Sr. and wife Noela of Lovington, NM; one daughter: Felisha Henry of Austin, TX; eight grandchildren: Brian Nash, Joe Henry, Tamisha Henry, Marcus Fowler, NaTasha Nash, Aubrey Nash, Desirae Brooks, Bryant Sutton and ten great-grandchildren: also three brothers: Henry O'Neal of Lovington, Sherman Henderson of Dallas TX and Cleveland Henderson of Tyler, TX. Visitation will be held on Friday June 14, 2019 from 1:00 pm until 6:00 pm at the funeral home.
