Graveside services for Helen Elizabeth Henard, 95, of Hobbs and formerly of Lovington, NM was held on Wednesday, June 19, 2019 at 1:00 pm NM time at Yoakum County Cemetery in Plains, TX with David Stewart officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Kirby-Smith-Rogers Funeral Home. Ms. Henard was born on July 17, 1923 in Wellington, TX to Arthur Reed and Maude E. (Petty) Nelson and passed away on June 16, 2019 at Desert Gardens in Hobbs, NM. She married Robert Fulton Henard on August 9, 1942 in Wellington, TX and they shared 40 plus years together. They lived in Plains, TX on the Henard Ranch and later moved to Lovington and lived here for many years. She was a homemaker and mother but was also was employed as a school bus driver for Lovington schools and worked at the Lovington Leader newspaper office. She was a member of Third and Central Church of Christ and was very involved with her church, with the Lea County 4-H programs, the Cactus Cowbelles and NM Hereford Auxiliary. Helen was a busy lady who was well thought of in Lea County.
Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband Robert; one daughter: Margaret Sue Henard and two brothers: Billy Nelson and J.C. Nelson.
Surviving her is one daughter: Frances Nell Henard of Hobbs, NM; her sister: Sue Nelson Coffee of Waco, TX and her nephew and wife, Oscar and Carolyn Henard of Tatum, NM, who were her caregiver for many years. Also other nieces and nephews survive her.
