Obituary of Dominga Rodriguez

Funeral services for Dominga Rodriguez, 62, of Lovington, NM will be held on Friday, August 16, 2019 at 10:00 am at St. Thomas Catholic Church with Father Jesus Martinez officiating. Arrangements are under the care of Kirby-Smith-Rogers Funeral Home. Mrs. Rodriguez was born on June 30, 1957 in Artesia, NM to Barnybe and Maria (Chavez) Ortega and passed away on August 10, 2019 in Odessa, TX. She was raised in Artesia, attending school there before marrying Sam Rodriguez in Lovington on May 13, 1976 and they have shared forty three years together. Dominga worked in the early years for McDonalds and Burger King as a cook then manager. She was very active at St. Thomas Catholic Church where she taught Sunday School and was also involved with other events. She loved her parents and her family and spent a lot of time with her children, encouraging them to get their education and keeping them in sports. Being the youngest of twenty children, she was a strong and determined woman. Her positive outlook on life helped her through many of the tough times she endured, especially with her health. She taught her children to "never give up", "keep fighting and be strong" and her life exemplified those virtues. Dominga was preceded in death by her parents; ten brothers: Goyo, Paul, Israel, David, Ricky, Franky and Benny and infants,Manuel, Cruz and Benny Ortega; also four sisters: Gloria valdez, Irene Gomez, Anita Franco and Dominga's twin sister who died at their birth. Surviving her is her husband, Sammy of the home; one son: Sammy Jr and wife Amy Rodriguez of Hobbs, NM; two daughters: Janie and husband Joe Garcia of Ft. worth, TX and Christina and husband Yunven Martinez of Lamont, CA; two brothers: Adolfo and wife Lupe Ortega of Artesia and Barney Ortega of Dallas, TX; two sisters: Emma Ortega of Lovington and Eve Lopez of Artesia; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held on Thursday, August 15, from noon until rosary at 7:00 pm at the funeral chapel
