Fay was born at Crossroads, NM on August 1, 1932 to Flavous Connon and Ruby Lillian (King) Bonds and passed away on July 19, 2017 at Good Samaritan Center in Lovington. She attended school at Pitchfork, NM and at other small community schools in that area for a short time and later graduated from Lovington High School. She married William Robert “Bill” Cummings in Hobbs on August 1, 1950 on Fay’s eighteenth birthday. Fay and Bill lived in Tatum for awhile and then came to Lovington in the early “50’s” making their home here and raising their family here. Fay drove school bus # 11 on the route that went from Jefferson to High School and SW Lovington around to the ranches and back up the Artesia Hwy for over twenty two years. Fay was an active, faithful member of Northside Baptist Church and then Trinity Baptist Church for many years, teaching Sunday School, VBS, serving as treasurer, and always helping. She would take the elderly shopping for groceries, did hair for twenty seven years at Good Sam and volunteered to help others with paying bills, cleaning or whatever they needed. She liked to sew and made the kids clothes when they were young, and she liked games, cards and “chicken foot”. She was a member of Rebekahs and Oddfellows and enjoyed spending time at the Senior Citizen Center. Fay played the piano and the accordion and loved music, especially gospel, but also liked country and bluegrass. Her favorite thing was reading. She was a kind, generous, loving woman who will be greatly missed. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one grandson: Jason Lee Cummings; one brother: David Leroy Bonds; one sister: Bernadean Otis and one son-in-law, Tim McLeod. Surviving her are her two sons: Tommy and wife Pat Cummings of Lovington; Billy and wife Karen Cummings of Hobbs, NM; one daughter: Laverna McLeod of Booneville, AR; one brother: Milton and wife Joeann Bonds of Alto, NM; seven grandchildren: Melissa and husband Steve Geddes of Midland, TX, Donnie Cummings of Midland, Nannette LaShay and husband David Douglas of California, Dottie and husband Dub Wade of Lubbock, TX; Michael and wife Felicia McLeod of Booneville, AR; Steven and wife Amanda McLeod of Siloam Springs, AR and Chris and wife Kelli McCall of Hobbs, NM ; twenty great-grandchildren and 10 great-great-grandchildren; and a host of friends. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Trinity Baptist Church, PO Box 1777, Lovington, NM 88260. Visitation will be held on Friday, July 21, 2017 from 11:00 am until 6:00 pm at the funeral home.
