Obituary of Wilma Porter

Funeral Services for Wilma Luella Porter, 87, of Hobbs, NM will be held on Friday, September 6, 2019 at 1:00 pm at Kirby-Smith-Rogers Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation will be held on Thursday from 10:00 am until 5:00 pm at the funeral home and on Friday morning from 10:00 am until service time at the church. Wilma was born on January 13, 1932 to A.J. and Hatti (Leathers) Willis in Stanton, TX and passed away on August 29, 2019 in Hobbs, NM. She and her siblings were raised in this area of New Mexico and West Texas. Wilma was a lady that liked working and she became the owner and manager of two retail stores in Midland and Big Spring, TX called Porters Fashions. Wilma was always a picture of fashion and very classy herself, which made her a success with her business and with her life as she was a people person. Her favorite enjoyment was gospel and country music and she spent many hours listening to it. She adored her grandchildren and was very close to her cousin, Terry Willis. He would always come to see her and give o his time to her and bring her gifts. He was very special to Wilma and she loved him very much. Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband Marvin Porter; five brothers: Frank, Noah, Ronnie, J.W. and Billy Willis and one sister: Neda Keizer. Surviving her is her son: James and wife Carol Hambright of Odessa, TX; Two grandchildren: Eric Hambright and Lisa Hambright and two great grandchildren. Two sisters: Alta Chenault and Mary Booker both of Hobbs, NM and sister by choice: Pam Willis of Hobbs; also numerous nieces and nephews.
