Obituary of Stanford Odell Black

Please share a memory of Stanford to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Mother and Dad were married nearly seventy years and at the end of June, Mom (Granny) went to Heaven and as of October 8, 2019, they have been reunited as Dad (Papaw) Stanford Odell Black passed and went to be with our Lord and with Mom. He was born on September 22, 1925 in Plainview, NM to William Berry and Lelah R. (Clayton) Black. He served our country in the US Navy from 1943 until 1946 and later in 1949, he married his life-love, Margaret Lorene Church. Odell was employed by Mobil Oil from 1946 until 1986 when he retired. He was an avid fisherman, loved all things Native American, and most of all, loved his family. Our hearts are very broken, but we know he is rejoicing being with our Lord, his wife, parents, and longtime friends. A memorial service celebrating his life will be held on October 29, at 1:00 pm at Kirby-Smith-Rogers Funeral Home Chapel. Also, honoring his wishes, there will be private family services held in the coming months in the Weminuche Valley in Colorado. Preceding him in death was his wife, Lorene; his parents and one brother: Clinton Black. Surviving him are two children: Ron and wife Jayme Black of Lovington and Denise and husband Rick Dunlap of Lovington; five grandchildren: Josh and wife Hollan Black, Chay and husband Erik Hagedoorn, Ty and wife Jaymie Dunlap, Knicole Hardin, Ashley and husband Chris McCart and four great-grandchildren: Lacy, Harper Rose, Taelyr and Kystopher. Again, thank you all so kindly from the bottom of our hearts, for your prayers, thoughts, calls and texts. We appreciate you all.
