Graveside services for James "Lefty" Spears will be held on February 7, 2020 at 10:00 am at Antioch Cemetery with Bro. Matt Bridges officiating. Lefty was born on October 2, 1923 in Plains, TX to James Monroe and Ida Bell (Koggin) Spears and passed away on February 2, 2020 at his home. Arrangements are under the direction of Kirby-Smith-Rogers Funeral Home. Lefty, as he was known by, proudly served in the US Air Force, flying fifty missions as a tail gunner. He was in Austria and Germany. He married Ouida Copeland on August 24, 1947 and they have shared 73 years together. Lefty served on the Farm Bureau for about fifty years, the Lea County Electric Board for thirty-five years and fifty five years for the Soil Conservation. His passion was working and he also enjoyed going to the rodeos with his son. He was a member of First United Methodist Church and a truly remarkable man. He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Ida Spears; two brothers: Sid and Ramon Spears and one sister: Mona Davis.; and one grandson: Koly Ray Spears. Surviving him is his wife, Ouida Spears of Lovington, NM; one son: J.W Spears of Lovington, NM; Two daughters: Carla Jones and husband Dicky of Austin, TX, and Kirestie Jackson and husband Dean Of Lovington, NM; one sister: Fern Bell of Bullhead, Oklahoma; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held on Thursday, February 6, 2020 for 1:00 pm till 7:00 pm with family here from 5:00 pm till 6:00 pm.
