Obituary of Dolores Gonzales

Funeral services for Dolores Gonzales, 66, of Lovington, NM were held on Wednesday, February 12, 2020 at 2:00 pm at St. Thomas Catholic Church with Father Jesus Martinez officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Kirby-Smith-Rogers Funeral Home. Dolores was born in San Antonio, TX to Juan and Tomasa (Polendo) Garcia on July 20, 1953 and passed away on February 5, 2020 in Lovington. She has made her home in Lovington for over fifty plus years. She was active at St. Thomas church in her earlier years and later when she was able to attend. She liked quilting and crocheting and cooking. She was well known for her tortillas and chicken and rice. She collected porcelain dolls and loved old cars, especially antique one and enjoyed watching her husband and boys work on the cars. She loved to drive, do the "twist" and would make her brother Raul, who she was close to, get up and dance the twist with her. Dolores, or Lolita as she was nicknamed, was a fiesty, plain spoken lady and loved being around her grandchildren. Her home and her boys and their families were her passion and her world. She was greatly loved and will be very missed by all who knew her and loved her. Preceding her in death were her parents and her husband: Ismael Gonzales and one daughter: Vickie Gonzales. Surviving her are three sons: Ismael Jr. Gonzales, Stevie and wife Jessica Gonzales and Alex and wife Janet Gonzales all of Lovington; five brothers: Johnny and wife Alice Garcia of Hobbs; Raul and wife Mary Garcia of Lovington; Robert and wife Veronica Garcia of Lovington and Felix and wife Frances Garcia of Hobbs and Mike and wife Michelle Garcia of San Antonio, TX; one sister: Margie and husband Jimmy Mendiola of Hobbs and also eleven grandchildren. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, February 11th from 3:00 pm until rosary time at 7:30 at the funeral home and on Wednesday from 8:30 am- 1:00 pm.
