Obituary of Rita Jo Breshears

Rita Jo Breshears April 11, 1940 - March 12, 2015 Funeral services for Rita Jo Breshears, 74, of Lovington, NM will be held on Monday, March 16, 2015 at New Beginnings Church at 10:00 am with her son-in-law, David Davis and Heather Bean officiating. Burial will follow at Lovington Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Kirby-Smith-Rogers Funeral Home. Rita was born in Black Rock, Arkansas to Delmer and Mildred Lorine (Wilson) Atkins on April 11, 1940 and passed away at her home in Lovington on Thursday, March 12, 2015. She came to New Mexico when she was fourteen and grew up in Loco Hills and attended school in Artesia. She has always attended church as her faith was very important to her. She enjoyed fishing, camping, working in her yard and liked to go to the mountains. She was employed by Bob’s Thriftway for eighteen years and retired when she was diagnosed with breast cancer in 1998. She fought a long battle with cancer and still maintained a positive attitude, a smiling face and definitely was the glue in her family. She enjoyed cooking out and loved all the holidays at her house with her family. Rita was preceded in death by her parents; one infant daughter: Ruby Lorine Cantrell and one sister: Yvonne Wilson. She is survived by one son: Gary Wayne Cantrell of Tulsa, Oklahoma; three daughters: Anita Jo and husband David Davis of Lovington; Gayla and husband Jerry Mathews of Artesia, NM; and Becky Sue Lemley of Lovington, NM; two brothers: Gene and wife Barbara Atkins of Lovington, NM and Darrell and wife Pam Atkins of Artesia, NM; eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren, and her former husband, Anthony Breshears of Clayton, OK. Memorials may be made to Jericho House, 2845 Dona Ana Rd., Las Cruces, NM 88007 in Rita’s memory. Visitation will be held on Sunday from 2:00pm until 6:00 pm with the family in residence from 2:00 until 3:00 pm at the funeral home. Condolences may be sent to www.kirbysmithrogers.com.
