Please share a memory of Roy to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Graveside services for Roy Melvin Hobbs, 78, of Lovington, NM will be held on Saturday, March 28, 2020 at 10:00 am at Lovington Cemetery with Bro. Dave Rowser officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Kirby-Smith-Rogers Funeral Home. Mr. Hobbs was born in Carlsbad, NM on November 11, 1941 to Draylen and Eloise (Kirkland) Hobbs and passed away on March 22, 2020 in Hobbs, NM. He graduated from Lovington High School and at one time threw the Lovington papers for the community. Roy worked in the oilfield for fifty years doing varied jobs but was a Drilling superintendent for most of those years. He tinkered on vehicles, oilfield equipment and anything else he could get his hands on, and as you can see, his passion was working! Riding motorcycles was a source of pleasure for him as he liked those cycles and he also enjoyed dancing very much. He was an avid reader, liked doing crosswords puzzles, playing card games and cribbage. When his kids were younger, he was a big supporter of their activities and was known for coaching baseball games, helping start the Booster Club, doing car washes, and food sales (famous sausage wraps) to help support their events. He was instrumental in painting "paws" on the streets of Lovington, an event that is still in progress today. Camping at Timberon was a favorite of his family. Roy loved his "favorite daughter-in-law" Nancy and when she called him and he answered, she said "its me", so he called her ME. He was a simple man that liked a simple way of life. Roy was generous to a fault with his time and resources and had a sharp wit and great sense of humor and a loving heart Preceding him in death were his parents; his wife Debra; one son: Roy Hobbs Jr.; one daughter: Carol Hobbs Herrera and two brothers: Lewis Hagan and Dale Hobbs. Surviving him are his three sons: Troy Lee Hobbs of Lovington, Travis Hobbs of Lubbock and Todd and wife Nancy Hobbs of Boyd, TX; four brothers: Danny and wife Ann Hobbs of Hobbs, NM, Bill and wife Jeannie Hagan of El Paso, TX, Roger Hagan of Florida and Van and wife Rhonda Hagan of Amarillo, TX. Also nine grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren Visitation will be held on Friday, March 27th from 2:00 pm – 7:00 pm at the funeral home.
