Obituary of Edwin Earl Mitchell

Graveside services for Earl Mitchell, 87, of Lovington, NM will be held on Friday, March 27, 2020 at 10:00 am at Resthaven Cemetery with Pastor Jimmy Charles Crawford and Aaron Mitchell officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Kirby-Smith-Rogers Funeral Home. Mr. Mitchell was born in Erick, OK on February 11, 1933 to Everett and Gertie (Woodrow) Mitchell and passed away at his home in Lovington on March 25, 2020. Earl grew up in Oklahoma and graduated from Erick High School. He enlisted in the US Army in 1956 serving his country for a few years. On May 15, 1958 he married his sweetheart, Shirley Wilson and they have shared sixty two years of life and love together. Earl was self-employed for several years before being employed by triple H Engine Service.- He loved working and being busy. He coached his kid's baseball team when they were young and the family enjoyed going on camping trips together. He helped with a few mission trips and liked going up into the Navajo Nation. Earl loved reading his Bible and attending church. One of his passions was fishing! His family said he smiled all the time and was known to try anything once. He will be greatly missed. Preceding him in death were his parents; one brother: Glen Mitchell and one sister: Annis Tuttle. Surviving him is his wife Shirley of the home; one son: Earl Jr and wife Rhonda Mitchell of Clovis, NM; one daughter: Pam and husband Charles Homer of Lovington; one brother: Andrew Van Horn of Lunenberg, VT; three sisters: Lorene Clark of Fayetteville, AR, Ethile Jones of Wolfforth, TX and LaTresa Baker of Plainview, TX; also three grandchildren: Josh and wife Claire Mitchell of Lovington, Aaron and wife Jodee Mitchell of Coleman, TX ,and Jason Mitchell of Clovis, NM.; two great-grandchildren: Kaden Mitchell of Lovington and Kinli Mitchell of Coleman, TX. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Concho Baptist Church, Mission Program, 1700 S. Concho, Coleman, TX 76834. Visitation will be held on Thursday, March 26th from 3:00 – 6:00 pm at the funeral home.
