Memorial services for Jose "Joe" Trujillo, 87, of Lovington, NM will be held on Saturday, June 6, 2020 at 10:00 am at Jackson Ave Baptist Church with Bro Dave Rowser officiating. Burial will follow at Resthaven Cemetery. Joe was born on June 19, 1932 in Farley, NM to Rubel and Maria (Martinez) Trujillo and passed away on May 24, 2020 in Lovington, NM. Joe married his sweetheart, Mary Rodriguez on October 8, 1949 in Raton, NM and they shared 69 years of life, love and family together, before her passing in 2018. Joe and Mary came to Lovington in 1955 to make their home and Joe was employed with Lea County Electric as Senior Lineman for thirty-five years. The guys he worked with called him "Grampa Joe" or "Joe T". Chris Bessenecker said that Joe was considered the "best" at "hotwire work" and he taught many of the employees the special skills that he possessed. He was a good friend to many! Joe and Mary enjoyed traveling, going to the casinos and each night going to McDonalds for their coffee and apple pie. They loved going out to eat and when he walked in to the restaurant, especially the Ranch House, they were greeted with "Your usual?". He and Mary loved dancing and won first place many times when competing, they were the dancing duo! His favorite song was "Kansas City". Joe was a kind-hearted, gentle man that loved his kids and grandchildren and was remembered by others, as the "man that held hands with his wife and carried her purse". He will be greatly missed! Preceding him in death were his parents; his wife Mary; one son: Richard Trujillo and one daughter: Rachel Castillo; four brothers: Tony, Rudy, Felix and Leroy Trujillo; three sisters: Hazel Villarreal, Olio Trujillo and Helen Hidalgo. Surviving him is one daughter: Cathy Gutierrez of Lovington; two sisters: Ruby Gonzales of Roswell, NM and Beatrice Mirelis of Douglas, WY; also, six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild and a host of friends.
