Obituary of Ruben Ochoa

Funeral services for Ruben Ochoa Sr, 87, of Lovington, NM will be held on Monday, August 3, 2020 at 10:00 am at St. Thomas Catholic Church with Father Samuel Ameh officiating. Burial will follow at Lovington Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Kirby-Ratliff Funeral Home. Ruben was born on March 11, 1933 in Avendanos, Chihuahua, Mexico to Salvador and Elena (Prado) Ochoa and passed away on July 30, 2020 in Lovington. He married Matilde Trevizo-Solis in Mexico on April 23, 1960 and in 1984 they came to Lovington to make their home. Ruben worked in construction and the oilfield for Caprock Pipe. Going to the sale barn was a treat for him. He loved animals and especially horses and enjoyed watching the cattle. He liked cooking fish for his family and friends but did not eat fish! He also liked going to Chicago to visit family. Ruben never met a stranger, was a great guy and well- known and loved. As a husband, father and grandpa he was the best. He will be greatly missed. He was preceded in death by his parents: Salvador and Elena Ochoa; one sister: Ernestina Carmona. Surviving him is his wife, Matilde Ochoa of Lovington; three sons: Luis Ochoa and wife Josefina of Chicago, Ruben Ochoa Jr. and wife Anna of Chicago, and Leonel Ochoa and wife Mayra of Lovington; five daughters: Ramona and husband Alvaro Valenzuela of Chicago, Lorena Ochoa of Lovington, Rosa and husband Dean Pando of Lovington, Alicia and husband Miguel Oliva of Chicago and Nancy and husband Ted Leyva of Lovington; three brothers: Ricardo Ochoa and wife Linda of Chicago, Salvador Ochoa and wife Leticia of Chicago, and Juvencio Ochoa of Chicago; two sisters: Rosalina Ochoa of Chihuahua, and Elena and husband Alfonso Avitia of Chicago; seventeen grandchildren and Several great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held on Sunday, August 2, 2020 from 3:00 pm until Rosary. Rosary will be held at 6:00 pm at Funeral Home Chapel. Remember the Covid 19 and be courteous if ask to let someone else come in for visitation; at the church seating will be limited also and family will go first and at cemetery all may go there.
