Obituary of Alvin Otis Denmon

Watch the Tribute Alvin "Buddy" Otis Denmon July 18, 1911 - April 15, 2011 Funeral services for Alvin Otis “Buddy” Denmon, 99, of Ft. Worth, TX, formerly of Lovington, NM, will be held on Tuesday, April 19, 2011 at Jackson Ave Baptist Church at 11:00 a.m. with Bro. Dave Rowser officiating. Burial will follow at Lovington Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Kirby-Smith-Rogers Funeral Home. Buddy was born on July 18, 1911 in Sarepta, Louisiana to Green and Lula (Spencer) Denmon and passed away on April 15, 2011 in Ft. Worth, TX. He married Vernell Caviness October 25, 1943. He moved to Lovington in 1947 and was active in church activities at Jackson Ave Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and grounds chairman. One of his favorite activities was walking to the church and visiting with the daycare children. He was a proud veteran of WWII serving in the Army Air Corp as the crew chief for the base commander in Tifton, Georgia. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and continued hunting with a permit to shoot from a moving vehicle when he was restricted to walking with a walker after breaking his hip. He was a member of several coffee clubs, the last of which was the group at Western Commerce Bank. He was a faithful member until his move to live with his daughter in Ft. Worth. He was preceded in death by his wife Vernell on April 4, 1986, his parents, seven sisters: Carrie Denmon Neeley, Lillie Denmon Martin, Grace Denmon Burks, Allie Denmon Wills, Ivy Denmon Robinson, Lucille Denmon Miniuks, Maxine Denmon Miller and four brothers; Alton Denmon, Carlton Denmon, James Denmon and Oscar Denmon. He is survived by his daughter, Mary Alice Denmon Smith of Ft. Worth, TX; one brother, Arthur Denmon of Tyler, TX., and his sister Hazel Denmon Strother of Shreveport, Louisiana. Also surviving him are numerous nieces and nephews and a host of friends. Visitation will be Monday, April 18, 2011 from 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm with the family in residence from 5:30 – 7:30 pm.
