Funeral services for Kenneth Charles Chisum, also known as "KC" will be held on Saturday, October 24, 2020 at 10:00 am at Hillcrest Baptist Church with pastors, Chad Wease and Wayne Villar officiating. Burial will follow at Lovington Cemetery. Kenneth was born in Simon, Oklahoma on July 19th 1938 to Tony Joseph Chisum and Ethel Rowena (Brewer) Chisum. He gained his wings on October 18, 2020 in Brownwood, Texas. He graduated high school in 1957 and after graduation he went to New Mexico to work in the oilfield. He worked in New Mexico and Texas for several years. He married Wynell Lee and had two children, Shelia Neil Chisum and Kenneth C. Chisum Jr. He wanted to see world and went overseas to work in the oilfields. He worked in Egypt, Iran, Lybia and Venezuela. He returned to New Mexico and married the love of his life, Laverne McLaurin on Nov 18, 1977 and increased his family with three more children, Cheryl Venice Patterson, Kimberly Kaye Gilliam and Waldo McLaurin III. Kenneth was a hardworking man and he had a tendency to invent work. He was passionate about his gardening. He had a garden that was picture perfect, which produced delicious fruits and vegetables every year. He had a big heart and loved his family dearly. Preceding him in death were his parents: Tony and Ethel Chisum; four children: Sheliah Chisum, Kenneth C. Chisum Jr., Cheryl Patterson, and Wally McLaurin; three brothers: John, Billy, and Tony Chisum: three sisters: Alma Dean, Velma Jackson, and Leona Hembree. Surviving him is his wife, Laverne of the home, and one daughter: Kimberly Gilliam; his 13 grandchildren: Billy Bell Jr., Brandon Bell, Derek Miller, Kendra Stewart, Krysta Chisum, Kasey Chisum, Kenzi Smith, Kelsey Bennett, Tara Cole, Ky Gilliam, Lacy McLaurin, Sarah McLaurin, and Kristen Quiroz, and 19 great-grandchildren; four sisters: Wanda Young, Betty Chisum, Lucille Chisum and Peggy Chisum. Visitation will be held on Friday, Oct 23, 2020 from 2:00- 7:00pm at the funeral home. Condolences may be sent to www.kirbysmithrogers.com.
