Obituary of Dolores Mae Wright

Please share a memory of Dolores to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Dolores Mae Wright, lovingly known as "Dee", was a beloved Mother, Grandmother, Great-grandmother and Auntie. She was born on January 16, 1936 in Borger, TX to Homer and Ollie Irene (Rogers) Shipley and passed away on October 27, 2020 in Lubbock, TX. Dee married Robert H. Wright on November 25, 1958 and for most of their fifty six years of marriage they lived in Jal, NM. Dee and Rob raised two beautiful daughters, Kelly and Kerri Beth, who was known as Joey. They passionately loved their children, grandchildren and great- grandchildren. Dee worked for many years as a cook at the Jal Senior Citizen's center and provided many delicious meals. She found great enjoyment working around all of her friends and being able to serve the community. Her chicken strips and Thanksgiving dressing were legendary and they were both made with love. She enjoyed hosting parties for her family and friends and her pool parties and holiday gatherings became famous locally. In a fun costume themed ceremony, officiated by their grandson, Kyle, who played the part of Elvis, Dee and Rob renewed their wedding vows for their 50th wedding anniversary. Dee was fun-loving, kind, clever and had a quick wit and she certainly kept friends and family entertained at all times. She did a rather spectacular imitation of Lady Bird Johnson. She enjoyed cooking, sewing, fishing and was a friend to many. She loved to visit by phone for hours with those she loved, especially her daughters and niece Melanie. Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband Rob; one daughter Joey; one grandson Jared; two brothers: Ethrich and Homer Shipley; and two sisters: Anne Nichols and Sibyl Carver. Surviving her is her daughter, Kelly and husband Glen Summers; her son-in-law: Randy Hunter; grandchildren: Kyle and wife Jennifer Summers; Kristy and husband Chris Smith; Corey and wife Kimberly Hunter; great-grandchildren: Austin Summers, Westin Smith, Bostyn, Blakely and Maclain Hunter; niece, Melanie Carver and nephew Bruce Carver and Sherri; great-nieces and nephews: Meseret and Selam Carver, Heith Carver and Danielle Corbin. Also, numerous other nieces, nephews and extended family. She will live in our hearts forever and we take great comfort in knowing we will see her again in Heaven. A memorial service will be held in the coming months at Calvary Baptist Church in Jal, NM. Arrangements are under the direction of Kirby-Ratliff Funeral Home in Lovington, NM. Condolences may be sent to www.kirbysmithrogers.com.
