Obituary of Sarah Loraine Cross

Graveside services for Sarah "Loraine" Cross, 89, of Lovington, NM will be held on Wednesday, December 23, 2020 at 10:00 am Lovington Cemetery with David Stewart officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Kirby-Ratliff Funeral Home. Ms. Cross was born on March 11, 1931 in Olton, Texas to William C. and Sarah Inez (Austin) Love and passed away in Lovington on December 12, 2020. Loraine attended school in Oklahoma in the small community around Victory. She met J. D. in 1945 in Altus after he returned from serving in the military and they married in 1950. They moved here in 1957 from Altus, OK and became very active in church. Loraine loved to cook and was very good about taking food to the church for families or get-to –together's. She enjoyed crocheting and yardwork and growing okra and tomatoes. Loraine was a pretty laid back person and was happy and liked to smile and laugh with the family. When the boys were growing up, she had a special smile that she did and you knew she was aware you weren't telling her the truth. She loved her family and her church. Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband J. D.; one son: Jimmy Darwin Cross; four brothers: Everett, Edward, Bruce and Jr. Love and one sister: Marie Simpson. Surviving her is one son: Steve and wife Lewana Cross of Lovington and one Sister: Dorothy Damitz of Kansas City, Missouri; three grandchildren: Lori and husband Matt Christian, Jimmy D. and wife Barbara Cross and Roseann and husband Tommy Coen; nine great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.
