Obituary of Wallace Wilson Shorter

Graveside services for Wallace Wilson Shorter, 91, of Lovington, NM will be held on Tuesday, March 30, 2021 at 2:00 pm at Lovington Cemetery with Reverend Jaime Quinones officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Kirby-Ratliff Funeral Home. Mr. Shorter was born on May 20, 1929 in Levelland, TX to Edgar Jackson and Mary Ann (Green) Shorter and passed away at his residence on March 24, 2021 surrounded by his loved ones. He grew up in Levelland, graduating there and then joining the Army doing his basic training at Ft. Sill, OK and serving during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of the VFW and the Honor Guard for a long time. When he came to New Mexico he worked in the oilfield as a field mechanic and for Arco for twenty nine years. He liked going to Vegas and Laughlin to gamble and loved going to Louisiana to get on the river boats to gamble. He loved slot machines! Traveling was his joy and he traveled from one coast to the other. He truly loved dancing, saying it was his exercise. He and Joyce enjoyed taking cruises, going to Alaska and Belize and just having a great time. He was full of life, loved laughing and his passion was picking or aggravating other people, especially Joyce. All of the family said "He was full of it!" He and Joyce shared twenty two years of life and love together. Preceding him in death were his parents, one son: Eddy; two sisters: Margie Stevenson and Elizabeth Reid; and four brothers: Haskell, Henson, Earl and Ross. Surviving him is his love, Joyce, of the home; one daughter: Sherry and husband Dave Dunlap of Lovington; one daughter-in-law, Ginger Shorter of Lovington; two sons: Mike and wife Renee of San Angelo and Billy and wife Jerri of Lovington; ten grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; Visitation will be held on Monday, March 29th from 3-7 pm at the funeral home.
