Funeral services for Glenn Dowell Powell, 81, of Lovington were held on Friday, July 30, 2021 at 2:00 pm at Kirby-Ratliff Chapel with Bro. Johnny Lee officiating. Burial followed at Lovington Cemetery. Glenn was born on November 7, 1939 in Bokchito, Oklahoma to Dorris Leroy and Bonnie Inez (Hall) Powell and passed away on July 26, 2021. Glenn attended school in Hobbs where he was involved with wrestling team. He moved to Lovington in 1963. He was employed by Watson Truck & Supply as a supervisor. He also worked for Monument Well Service on pulling units and well units but he retired from Watson Truck & Supply. After retirement he built and raced blown alcohol dragsters and took many trophies with his new hobby. He and Colleen enjoyed music of all kinds. Glenn was quite talented playing his guitars. He was given a cigar box guitar by his son Greg which he treasured. They liked to travel especially going to Lake Texoma. Glenn was a "rock" for his boys and taught them good guidance and good attitudes about do right and living a good life. He was preceded in death by his parents: Dorris and Bonnie Powell; and two infant daughters: LaDonna Gwen Powell and Lanette Leann Powell. He is survived by his wife Colleen Powell of Lovington; two sons: Ocie Powell and wife Patty of Ft. Worth, TX., and Greg Powell of Orange, TX.; and six grandchildren: Misti and husband Jimmy Walters, Matthew Powell and wife Jessica, Heather Powell, Jasmine Powell, Haley and husband Michael Schlabach, and Rachel and husband Will Hall.
