Obituary of Senaida Holguin Aranda

Funeral Services for Senaida (Sadie) Holguin Aranda of Lovington, New Mexico will be held on Wednesday, February 2, 2022, at 10:00am at St. Thomas Catholic Church in Lovington. Burial will follow at the Lovington Cemetery. A viewing and rosary for family and friends will be held at Kirby-Ratliff Funeral Home on Tuesday, February 1, 2022. Viewing is 3:00 pm – 5:00 pm and rosary is at 6:00pm. Pallbearers are Champ Aranda, Emilio Aranda, AJ Moreno, Homer Vasquez, Jr, Michael Vasquez, and Zen Chila. Senaida was born on June 5, 1938, in Imperial, Texas to Luciano and Margarita Holguin. She attended Buena Vista Schools where she was an excellent student and played volleyball. She married Felipe Neri Aranda, and eventually moved their family to Portales, NM. Senaida has been a nurturing caregiver for the young and young-at-heart throughout her life. Beginning with her own family, she expanded her passion of taking care of others by teaching children in head start and earning her CNA as she cared for elderly patients. At times, she lovingly cared for people often much younger than her as well. She was also a devoted member of St. Thomas Catholic Church where she taught catechism for many years. Senaida was preceded in death by her beloved husband Felipe Neri Aranda; daughters Frances Aranda, Andrea Aranda, and Eloisa Cristina (Penny) Aranda; parents Luciano and Margarita Holguin. She is survived by her grown children: Homer (Olivia) Vasquez of Arlington, TX, Kris Aranda Padilla of Las Cruces, Phil (Angela) Aranda of Lovington, Martha (Danny) and Sanchez of Las Cruces; her grandchildren, Homer Vasquez, Michael Vasquez, Erica Walton, Danielle Vasquez, Sonya Rodgers, Karlee Gonzales, Guthrie Ornelas, Champ Aranda, Emilio Aranda, Danielle Sanchez, Monika Sanchez, Mia Aranda, and AJ Moreno, and many great-grandchildren. She was also very blessed to have a large extended family. Senaida will be remembered as a wise and loving, kindhearted person who loved life, her family, and friends throughout the years.
