Inez Duffey Turner
December 12, 1922 - November 10, 2015
Funeral services for Inez Duffey Turner, 92, of Lovington, NM will be held on Thursday, November 12, 2015 at 10:00 am at Kirby-Smith-Rogers Funeral Home Chapel with Russell Cowen officiating. Burial will follow at Lovington Cemetery. Mrs. Turner was born in Whitney, TX on December 12, 1922 to John Riley and Mary Elizabeth (McDonald) Rose and passed away at Nor-Lea Hospital on November 10, 2015. She was the fourth of thirteen children. She married Silas Duffey on February 27, 1946 and they had four children. She and Silas shared thirty one years of marriage. Inez was a 4-H leader and very active with 4-H and FFA and worked at the Lea County Fair in the Home Economic Department. She would travel miles to one of the kids sporting events. She was a hard worker, working on the farm and was the epitome of a wife and mother, always cooking great meals for her family and sewing for her girls. They always had a garden, and she would can and freeze their vegetables. She taught Sunday School at Hillcrest Baptist Church for a number of years. After Silas’s death she found a new love in Wilburn Turner and they were married for eighteen years until his death. While they were married Inez started playing pool and was considered a “pool shark”. She had tons of pool trophies and loved outdoing the guys. She was quick-witted and was said to have a wicked sense of humor. She was very loved by her large family and friends and she will be greatly missed.
She was preceded in death by her parents; the father of her children, Silas Duffey and her second husband, Wilburn Turner; five brothers: John Rose, Dalton Rose, Donald Rose, Ed Rose and Marcel Rose; three sisters: Gladys Keener, Christine Purvis, Faye Warren; one son-in-law: Jerry Ancell and one great- grandson: Derek Summers.
She is survived by two sons: James and wife Janet Duffey of Roswell, NM and Jack and wife Cheryl Duffey of Hobbs, NM; two daughters: Rose Ann and husband Perl Harris of Bronco, TX and Nancy and husband Harry Teague of Hobbs, NM; two step-daughters: Leora and husband John Williams of Hallisburg, TX and Louella and husband Neal Drake of Big Sandy, TX; one brother: Bob Rose of Lake Whitney, TX; three sisters: Irene Winslet of Lubbock, TX, Nina Depoyster of Brownfield, TX and Mary Nell Young of Odessa, TX; eight grandchildren, four step-grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren, four step-great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, November 11, 2015 from noon until 8:00 pm at the funeral home
