Please share a memory of Edgar to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Edgar Dale Hammons passed away on December 16, 2022. He was preceded in death by his parents, George Davis Hammons and Lauvenia Clyde Robinson Hammons; his wife: Mary Luella Tigert Hammons; sons: Carl Dean and Lynn Dale Hammons; brother: Monroe, and sister: Ruby Montgomery. Surviving him is his son: Donald Wayne Hammons of St. Augustine, FL.; a sister: Norma Dell Savage of Roswell, NM; four Grandchildren and seven Great-grandchildren. Dale was a loving father, husband, and grandfather. Dale was born in Oklahoma and after graduating high school and getting married to Luella Tigert, his wife of 71 years, worked in the wheat fields in Kansas before becoming an oilfield worker in the Panhandle and in West Texas. He moved to Lovington from Kermit in 1955 while working for Mobil Oil. He became a member of Jackson Avenue Baptist Church shortly thereafter and lived in Lovington until he became ill and was moved to Florida by his only surviving son in April 2020. From the time he arrived in Lovington, Dale worked for several other oil companies and drove trucks as well as working in the potash mines in the Carlsbad area until he went to work for Phillips Petroleum in 1969. He worked at most of the Phillips plants in the Eastern NM and West Texas areas until he retired in 1996. Dale liked to travel and did as much of that as possible seeing the beautiful lands, parks and monuments of the US. He loved to visit his kids and grandkids, siblings, and other family members, who lived from Washington to Wyoming, Texas, Florida and Oklahoma. Dale liked to help people, and since he was a mechanic by trade, he spent a great deal of time helping keep the church buses operating efficiently as well as working at the Baptist Home in Cloudcroft.
