Charles "CW" William Dunn
June 14, 1922 - May 26, 2018
Memorial services for Charlie “CW” Dunn, 96, of Lovington, NM will be held on Friday, June 1, 2018 at 5:00 pm at First Christian Church. Arrangements are under the direction of Kirby-Smith-Rogers Funeral Home. Charlie was born on June 14, 1922 in Rockwall, TX to Ollie and Vera (Pirtle) Dunn and passed away on May 26, 2018 at his daughter’s home surrounded by love and memories of his family. He married the love of his life, Dorothy Allmon on June 6, 1940 in Gavilan, NM and together they created a loving legacy and celebrated their love for sixty years. They raised one son and six daughters. Charlie was in the Navy and proudly served the United States during WWII. He had lived in Lovington the majority of his life and was known as a “jack of all trades” and one who stands for what he believes in. He could be described as a strong willed man, but to those who truly knew him, he was a man of strength, built from love and kindness. He spent his time learning, experimenting and often inventing solutions to various problems. He has numerous patents from his inventions, as well as skills learned through the innumerable trades he performed. There was never a job or task he wasn’t willing to figure out how to do. One of his passions was to help others whether it was a listening ear or helping to fix something broken. Charlie had a very large and loving family and taught them that “a good name is rather to be chosen than great riches, and loving favour rather than silver and gold.”
He was preceded in death by his parents; Ollie and Vera; his wife, Dorothy; one son: Lafayette; one son-in-law: Richard Irwin; two brothers and one sister.
Surviving him are his six daughters: Naomi and husband Jack Rose of Idaho; Marian Griffith of Oklahoma, Katherine and husband Vince Schilling of Hobbs, NM; Junita Irwin of Lubbock, TX; Jannett and husband Walt Evans of Lovington and Ruby and husband Mark Owens of Lovington; also twenty grandchildren; fifty two great-grandchildren; thirty one great-great-grandchildren and still growing; also his second family, Roger and Betty Price and their children. At the most recent family gathering Charlie looked around and said, “The greatest thing in this world is love, and I am surrounded by it.” He will be greatly missed…
