Cherry Lou "Harris" James Obituary

Cherry was born on May 6, 1948 to Dick and Nannie (Carlton) Harris and passed away on February 16, 2023. Cherry graduated from Hobbs High School in 1966. She then went on to study Business and Psychology at New Mexico Junior College, and held a license in Cosmetology. Cherry married Bill James on July 18, 1969 in Hobbs, NM, and made their home in Jal, NM for 48 years. Cherry was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Jal, NM. She was a Multi-Tasker and had many interests, she was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. Cherry was an avid reader, a decorator, a gardener, and a dedicated "fisherman". She could cook fairly well and stretch a dollar "really well", so she was the chief financial officer in the family. Cherry was also a devoted care giver to her mother, brother and sister for over 20 years.


She was preceded in death by her parents: Dick and Nannie Harris; her husband: Bill James; two sisters: Dixie Lamonda and Nelda Bentle; and three brothers: Tony, Hogan, and Gary Harris.


She was survived by her daughter: Holly and husband James Kennedy; son: Kendall and wife Tracy James; six grandchildren: Kaitlynn, Kaylee, Shea, Andi, Zack, and Dylan; and nine great-grandchildren.
