Funeral services for Joe Wayne York, 80, of Tatum, NM will be held on Friday, June 9, 2023 at 2:00 pm at First Baptist Church in Tatum with Wayne Brazil officiating. Burial will follow at Tatum Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Kirby-Ratliff Funeral Home. Joe was born on April 23, 1943 in Lovington, NM to William Joe and Laura Mae (Abbott) York and passed away on June 3, 2023. Joe had made a lifelong career in the oilfield. He took a small break where he worked in the jail for a few years, he also refinished bathtubs before going to work for Stearns Trucking driving a water truck for 10 Years before retiring to spend time with the family. Joe always had a project he was working on, he enjoyed riding his motorcycle in his spare time, but most of all Joe loved his children and grandchildren. Joe always enjoyed talking with people at the post office or convenience store, he made friends with everyone he met. He loved telling his oilfield stories no matter how many times you have heard them.
He was preceded in death by his parents: William Joe and Laura Mae (Abbott) York and one sister, Linda Jane.
Surviving him is his wife, Barbara; one daughter: DeLana Riley; one son; Darryl and wife Alma; four grandchildren: Steven (Jazmine) Riley, Stacy York, Mathew York, and Ashley York; four great grandchildren: Nathan, Addam, Dylan and Sophia. Also, two brothers: Raymond and wife Nedra York and Tommy and wife Vickie York; one sister: D.J. and husband David Chambers.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, June 8, 2023 from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm at Kirby-Ratliff Chapel.
