Gary Alan Fitts: December 28, 1938 – July 4, 2023

Gary Alan Fitts passed away Tuesday July 4, 2023, at Nor Lea Hospital.

Gary Alan was born December 28, 1938, in Vernon, Texas to P.W. Fitts and Beulah Lovelady. He attended and graduated from Davidson High School in Davidson, Oklahoma in 1957. His love of sports began during high school, participating in baseball.

After attending college, Gary joined the Army in 1961. He became a Morse Code Operator with top secret clearance and was stationed in Germany during the Cuban Missile Crisis.

Following his stint in the army, he began his business career, and in Plainview, TX he met the love of his life, Janice. They were happily married for 56 years.

Gary had a great love for classic cars. He restored both a 1957 Ford Thunderbird and a 1968 Ford Mustang.

Gary owned and operated Colonial Mobile Homes in Hobbs for many years.

He was an avid Wildcat supporter: football, basketball, baseball, band, and even soccer. Whatever sport or activity his children and grandchildren participated in; he was there to cheer them on.

Gary was preceded in death by his parents Beulah and Dick Little, and his two sisters, Mona Jane and Janice Robinson.

He is survived by his wife, Janice Fay Fitts; one son Eric and wife Tina Fitts of Hobbs, NM; one daughter Lisa and husband Karlton Powell of Kansas City, Missouri; four grandsons: Alex Powell and wife Haley, Adam Powell, and Alan Powell of Kansas City, Missouri; Christian Fitts and wife Anali of Lovington; one granddaughter Vanessa Gibbens and husband Josh of Houston; great grandson Whittaker Powell, and his newest great grandchild due in September. He is also survived by numerous in-laws, cousins, nieces, and nephews.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
