Watch the Tribute Donald Dwayne Elliott October 15, 1938 - October 12, 2013 Funeral services for Donald Dwayne Elliott, 74, of Lovington, NM will be held on Wednesday, October 16, 2013 at 1:00 pm at First Christian Church with Daniel O’Doherty and Johnny Elliott officiating. Burial will follow at Resthaven Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Kirby-Smith-Rogers Funeral Home. Donald was born on October 15, 1938 in Aransas Pass, Texas to John Edward and Stella (Holt) Elliott and passed away on October 12, 2013 at his residence. He came to New Mexico when he was just a baby and was employed by and retired from Lea County Electric Company as a chemist. He was an active member of Lovington Assembly of God Church, singing in the choir, and was part of the Barbershop quartet that won State in Santa Fe, where a plaque hangs in the Capital building with their names. He served his country in the US Army and the National Guard. Don loved to sing, play his guitar, trumpet and harmonica and he enjoyed deer hunting and storytelling. He funded and started the Girls Softball League in Lovington and coached softball, Little League baseball and football. He was a loving family man and was involved in his children’s activities. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Theresa Brown Elliott; one son: Donald D. Elliott Jr.; one Grandson: Zachary White; one sister: Odie Hancock and one brother: Eddie Elliott and nephew: Gary Elliott. He is survived by two daughters: Debbie and husband Henry Hughes of Lovington and Stephanie and husband Russell Bullington of Las Cruces, NM; one brother: Johnny and wife Elsie Elliott of Las Cruces and one sister: Naomi Dickenson of Ardmore, OK and one sister-in-law: Gloria Elliott of Lovington. Also seven grandchildren: Delynda and husband Erik Navarette of Odessa, TX; Jessica and Husband Matthew Powell of Lovington; Tara and husband Jose Escalante of Las Cruces; Trisha and husband Adam Lem of Las Cruces; Elizabeth Elliott, Eric Watkins and Stephanie Watkins all of Granbury, TX and 12 great-grandchildren. Visitation will be on Tuesday, October 15, 2013 from 10:00 am until 8:00 pm with family here from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Alzheimer’s Association, New Mexico Chapter, 9500 Montgomery Blvd, STE 121, Albuquerque, NM 87111. Condolences may be sent to www.kirbysmithrogers.com.
