Please share a memory of Marvin to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Our rock and hero, Marvin Gene Campbell, left this world on August 10, 2023 in the loving arms of Jesus Christ. Marvin was born to Yancie Newt Campbell and Ruffie Mae McGaha Campbell in Gorman, TX on August 16, 1928. He attended high school in Dexter, NM where he excelled in basketball assisting the team to play in the state finals. He served in the US Air Force at Camp Benjamin Harrison, Indiana and was honorably discharged in 1949 as a corporal, following discharge from the air force, he returned to Lovington in 1949 where he met and married Barbara Lee Raper in 1951. He bought two farms east of Lovington where he lived until the age of 92. Marvin went to work for the Lea County Road Department in 1987, retiring in 2001. He then worked part time for bos Dairies until the age of 90. Dad's dreams were simple. They were to serve God to the best of his ability, to have a family and to be a farmer. During his lifetime he fulfilled all of his dreams and exceeded them. He enriched the lives he touched and was a steward of the land. Marvin is preceded in death by his wife: Barbara Lee Campbell; son: Marvin Gene Campbell Jr.; parents; Yancie and Ruffie Campbell; two sisters: Geneva Gable and Mary Ruth Pope; brother: Deen Campbell, and granddaughter: Jill Campbell. He is survived by his children; Arvel (Buzz) Campbell (wife Denise); Joyce Connolly and Edie Strickland; grandchildren: Jimmy (wife Brandy), Lisa Chavez (husband Scotty), Jessica Copper (husband Bryan), Jeff Connolly, Valerie Strickland, Chance Strickland, and Ira Lee Strickland (wife Katie); eighteen great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. We would like to thank all the caregivers who showed such kindness and grace to our father at Good Life Assisted Living, Hospice, White Sands Healthcare and the doctors and nurses at Nor-Lea Hospital. Viewing will be held at Kirby-Ratliff Funeral Home, Lovington on Sunday, August 13, 2023 from 3:00 pm to 5:00.
