Ruth Louise Minton, also known as Nicky, passed away on October 17, 2023, at the age of 95 in Lovington, New Mexico. She was born on May 11, 1928 in Houston, Texas, to Klondyke Anson Applegate and Alice Wilhemina (Petrich) Applegate. She was preceded in death by her father, mother, and sister Doris.

Nicky had a remarkable personality and a zest for life. In 1955, she was crowned Mrs. Lovington on May 22 and Mrs. Southeastern New Mexico on April 7, showcasing her grace and charm. She had a passion for exploring the world and embarked on numerous world cruises, experiencing adventures that most of us can only dream of. Nicky loved sharing her travel stories with everyone she met, spreading joy and inspiration.

Nicky leaves behind a loving family who will cherish her memory. She is survived by her son: David Loyd Minton and his wife Pauline Minton of Lovington, NM; her daughter: Rebecca Lee Minton of Farmington, NM; her granddaughter: Melissa White and her husband Greg White of Lovington, NM, her grandson: Mike Minton and his wife Jennifer of Santa Fe, NM, as well as three great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her half-sister Shirley Johnson of San Antonio, TX.

Nicky's educational journey led her to John Sealy College of Nursing in Galveston, TX, where she honed her skills and nurtured her caring nature.

In accordance with her wishes, a small, private family gathering will take place at a later date to remember and celebrate Nicky's life. She will be dearly missed by all those who had the pleasure of knowing her.

In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to the Lea County Cowboy Hall of Fame.
