Alvis "Leon" Faris, 90 years old, of Lubbock, TX passed away at his home on November 15, 2023. He was born in Clovis, NM on September 20, 1933. He is preceded in death by his father: Roy See Faris, and mother, Jimmie Maude Burns. His first wife, Emma Noel Jackson; brother, Carroll Holmes Faris; sister, Royce Christian and a step son, Chris Chambliss. He is survived by his wife, Neda Faris, of Lubbock, TX. His son, Mike (Jeanette) Faris of Lovington, NM; daughter, Rhonda (Jim) Urquhart of Oregon City, OR; step son, Scott Chambliss, of Rivera, TX; and a step daughter in law, Melissa Rannefeld, of Abilene, TX; 10 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; 5 great-great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews and great friends. Visitation will be held at 10AM and services will follow at 11AM on Monday, November 20th at Kirby-Ratliff Funeral Home, 1106 Main St, Lovington, NM 88260. Leon graduated from Clovis High School in 1952. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Eastern New Mexico University in 1957. He proudly served in the Army National Guard and was honorably discharged. He proudly served 16 years on the board of directors of the Nor-Lea Hospital District. Leon was a gifted athlete and proud of his sporting accomplishments. He enjoyed many years as a certified sports referee throughout New Mexico and Texas. Leon served as Lea County manager and holds the record for the most years as a county manager for all of New Mexico. Leon never met a stranger and spoke to everyone he met. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed spending time at the golf course with friends. He loved children and could be found playing ball in the front yard with neighborhood kids. Leon had a great love for animals. The family asks that in lieu of flowers to please make a donation to an animal rescue of your choice or Oregon Donkey Sanctuary.
