Funeral services for Mattie Laverne Chisum, 82, of Brownwood, Tx. formally of Lovington, NM will be held on Thursday, December 14, 2023 at 1:00 pm at Hillcrest Baptist Church with Randy Duncan and James David Foster officiating. Burial will follow at Lovington Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Kirby-Ratliff Funeral Home. Laverne was born on October 30, 1941 on a farm in Lueders, Texas to Dallas Luther Underwood and Mattie Ruth Lemmons and passed away on December 8, 2023 in Brownwood, Texas. Laverne married Kenneth Chisum on November 14, 1975 in Carlsbad, NM. She was a member of Hillcrest Baptist Church. Laverne was known to many as Big Momma. She was a homemaker, loved to can, and was a great cook. Laverne loved her family more than anything.

She was preceded in death by her parents: Dallas Luther Underwood and Mattie Ruth Lemmons; her husband of 49 years: Kenneth "K.C" Chisum; two daughters: Cheryl Patterson and Shelia Chisum; twos sons: Wally McLaurin and Kenny Chisum; one grandson: Kooper Davis; one brother: Raymond Underwood; and two sisters:

Bobbie Shott and Reba Cheyne.

She is survived by one daughter: Kimberly Gilliam and husband Tod of Brownwood, TX.; one brother: Dallas Underwood and wife Vickie of Abilene, Texas; twelve grandchildren, twenty-two great-grandchildren, and two great-great- grandchildren.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, December 13, 2023 from 4:00 pm until 6:00 pm at Kirby-Ratliff Chapel.
