Obituary of Sally Ann Barriga

Please share a memory of Sally to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Our favorite angel of this world passed away suddenly on February 22, 2024 in Tatum, New Mexico. Our beautiful mother Sally spent 75 years on this earth, loving everyone that came into her life. Sally was born on April 23, 1948, to John Rangel and Herky Rodriguez in Worland, Wyoming. She was the oldest sister, and she easily took on the role of becoming an angel to others, earning the title of the matriarch of our immediate and extended family. She was raised with a strong Catholic faith and always reminded us "you need to go to church." Mom always told stories of fishing in the mountains with her dad and brothers. As she became a mother, she created a close bond with her sisters and they were inseparable. Sally strongly encouraged education, and to be an example, she went back to school as a full-time mother and sat at the same table as we did doing homework, and received her GED and then onto bookkeeping school. In 1968 she met her forever love of her life Manuel Barriga. Together they built a successful business, and she learned more about the oilfield than most women. They were married for 55 years and were never apart. Together they raised 10 children and provided each one of us with love, support, guidance, old-fashioned values, and discipline. Sally always had enough love for all of us and she made sure she called or texted about our lives. Her greatest accomplishment was when she became a grandmother and would steal them away from their parents every moment that she could. She treasured her time with her grandkids and was a grandmother to other kids who weren't related and became known affectionately as "Grandma Sally" or "Triple G" to everyone. Sally made forever and loyal friends no matter where she went. She lived by the rule of life, "love thy neighbor" as she taught us by example numerous times. She cooked food for anyone in need and took it to them, provided clothes, transportation, translating for friends, and helping them fill out forms to get help. For those less fortunate she met in her path, you became blessed. In her spare time she made HER FAMOUS PEANUT BRITTLE, just ask anyone! During her free time, she enjoyed reading her bible, crocheted, read books, gardened, fed her birds grape jelly, loved her cats, and danced a mean peppermint twist. On your special day she sang you a happy birthday song at the time you were born. If you met her then she was a friend for life. Sally was a devout catholic who taught Catechism, and drove a truck bed full of kids to church and CCD classes, she also met with the nuns to see if you had learned all your prayers. She provided food and shelter to the priests when needed, and devoted herself to serving others. Sally will always be remembered for her big heart and how she went out of her way to help and never complained. We'll always hear her say "count your blessings." We couldn't have asked for a better mother and we will miss her every day. Her memory will live on in the hearts of all those who loved her. Sally was preceded in death by her parents: John Rangel and Herky Barriga; her son: Samuel Granado; 5 brothers; 2 sisters and 5 nephews. She is survived by her husband: Manuel Barriga of Tatum, N.M.; Anna Scroggins and husband Jeff, Manuel Barriga II, Michael Barriga, Marselo Barriga and wife Reyna, Marcos Barriga and wife Anabel, Mario and wife Martha, Nelly and husband Manny, Martin and wife sylvia and Magaly and husband Margarito and Cheryl who is our family by love.
