Obituary of Marilyn Nellene Gilmore

Funeral services for Nellene Gilmore, 84, of Lovington will be held on Wednesday, March 20, 2024 at 2:00 pm at First United Methodist Church with Pastor Robert Gasman officiating. Burial will follow at Lovington Cemetery. Nellene was born on February 8, 1940 in Grand Prairie, Texas to Leslie Frank and Willie Bue (Melton) Shivers and passed away on March 14, 2024. Nellene was very crafty and involved with her children's activities. She made and decorated cookies for her children's school parties and embroidered everyone in her family Christmas stockings. Nellene was raised in the Methodist Church and carried that faith throughout her life. At the Methodist Church she was involved in the after-school program, Joyful Connections and was a volunteer helping with the funeral family meals for years. She also taught Sunday School throughout the years. Nellene was one of the first women to work in the oilfield. If there was a job to do, she figured out a way to get it done. She was preceded in death by her parents: Leslie Frank and Willie Bue Shivers, her husbands Marshall Griffin and Shelby Gilmore, one brother Bill Shivers and her step son Michael Gilmore. She married Marshall Griffin having three children Marsha Groves, Becky Griffin and Eric Griffin after Marshall passed away, she married Shelby Gilmore gaining two-step sons Michael and Richard Gilmore and one step-daughter Donna Norton. She is survived by Marsha and husband Danny Groves, and Becky Griffin, Eric Griffin and wife Lorelei, Richard Gilmore and wife Jane, Donna Norton and her daughter in-law Jana Gilmore; one brother: George Shivers and wife Sharla; ten grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.
