Vera Lee Haning Langston was born to Aaron Andrew Haning and Nellie Edna Butler Haning on June 4th, 1923, in Buttner Community, Seminole County, Oklahoma. She married Bernice Iverson (Arkie) Langston on March 25th, 1941, with Rev. Burt Marrs officiating. They moved with their two children to Jal, NM in 1948, to escape the poverty of sharecropping in rural Oklahoma. She was one of the founding members of the Calvary Baptist Church in 1957.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband; and her siblings: Andrew Anderson, Ruby Eileen, Esther Louise, Louis Earl, Annie Marie, Benjamin Eugene, and survived by one brother: James Fred Haning.
She was also preceded in death by her daughter: Ramona Carolyn Stockton; Son-in-law: Tommie Raye Stockton; Daughter-in-law: Jo Katherine Langston; Grand-daughter: Leslie West.
She is survived by son: John Langston; grand-daughters: Jabecca Stockton, husband Steven Gross, Linda Lannuier, husband Paul; numerous great grand-children and great-great grand-children.
Services will be Wednesday, May 22nd at 2 PM at the Calvary Baptist Church in Jal, NM, handled by Kirby-Ratliff Funeral Home of Lovington, and Bro. Alan Speed. A short graveside ceremony will be followed by a reception at the church.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Senior Center, care of the City of Jal.
