Obituary of Olivia Ortiz

Olivia Ortiz October 22, 1936 – August 8, 2024 Olivia Ortiz, born in Orange Grove, Texas, on October 22, 1936, passed away on August 8, 2024. A devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Olivia was known for her unwavering love for her family and her generous spirit. Olivia cherished her role as a caregiver and always went above and beyond to ensure everyone around her was well-fed and comfortable. She was the cornerstone of her family, reminding us all through her actions of the importance of family. Her warm hospitality and delicious meals were a staple at family gatherings, especially at her beloved lake house. She is preceded in death by her children: David, JoAnna, and Joel; one granddaughter: Krystal Leal, and the love of her life, her late husband: Jack Rhodes. Olivia is also preceded in death by her parents: Luis and Dorotea Ortiz, and her siblings Octavio Ortiz, Tencha Colemero, Chano Ortiz, Cruz Ortiz, Rene Ortiz, Lydia Leal, Maria Flores, and Lupe Ortiz. Olivia is survived by her sons: Juan Jr. (Sylvia Leal), Jesse Leal, Jamie Leal, Jay Rhodes, Janie, Tammy, and Stephani Speer (Vince). She is also survived by her eleven grandchildren: Johnny Leal (Rosa), Leticia Leal, David Leal (Renee), Samantha Capetillo (Jeremy), JoAnna Jimenez (Jr), Jennifer Hosein (Feraz), Candace Leal, Tyra Leal, Chris Leal (Lupe), Josh Leal, and Kristen Cervantes (Jeremy), Brittan Gan (Spencer), Courtney Speer. In addition, she leaves behind 35 great-grandchildren and 25 great-great-grandchildren. We rejoice knowing that Olivia's soul is now in the presence of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Her legacy of love, care, and family devotion will be remembered by all who knew her. She will be deeply missed but always cherished in our hearts. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, August 13, 2024 at 10:00 am at St. Thomas Catholic Church with Father Samuel Ameh officiating. Burial will follow at Lovington Cemetery. Viewing will be held on Monday, August 12, 2024 from 2:00 pm until after Rosary. Rosary will be held at 6:00 pm at Kirby-Ratliff Funeral Home Chapel.
