Obituary of Alta Gandy

Alta Gandy November 19, 1916 - February 27, 2015 Funeral services for Alta Gandy, 98, of Lovington, NM will be held at 2:00pm, Wednesday, March 4, 2015 at 3rd & Central Church of Christ with David Stewart officiating. Burial will follow at the Tatum Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 3, 2015 from 9:00 am until 8:00 pm at Kirby-Smith-Rogers Funeral Home. Alta went to live with our Lord on February 27th, 2015 in Lubbock, TX at Covenant Hospital. She was born in Willow Point, Texas November 19, 1916 to Bernice Mansfield and Mamie (Zellner) Green. She married the love of her life MC Gandy, December 13, 1934, in Clovis, NM, and they celebrated 50 wonderful years together until the Lord took him home December 25, 1984. Alta gave birth to her only son, Dale Gandy on December 1, 1941 in Levelland, TX. In 1958, she moved to Tatum from the old homestead on the Bledsoe Highway. In 1962, they built a home on what soon became the Gandy Oilfield Services yard. Alta was the brains behind Gandy Corporation and served as the Secretary/Treasurer for 58 years. Before moving to Lovington in 2005, Alta was a member of the Church of Christ in Tatum, and then after her move, became a member of The Church of Christ in Lovington. Alta’s greatest passion was her family, but among her many talents was her artistic ability. Her paintings are displayed in her home as well as the homes of her loved ones and the Gandy Corporation offices. After the passing of her husband MC, she liked to travel and to take pictures of where she had been. Then she would come home to paint them in her own perspective. Those left to cherish her memory are one brother: Burl and wife Laverne Green of Mammoth, Oregon; one sister, Letha and husband, Clarence Thompson of Portales, NM; two grandsons, Larry Gandy & wife LeAnne of Tatum, NM, and Jon Gandy of Lovington, NM; 6 great grandchildren, Larrisa Nicole Gandy of Lovington, NM, Casey Dale Cleveland of Dallas, TX, Jamie Michelle Dean of Andrews, TX, Ashleigh Rae Everett and husband, Garrett, of Lovington, NM, Cooper Dale Gandy of Lubbock, TX, Jade Marie Gandy of Midland, TX, and one great-great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, MC Gandy and son: Dale Gandy; three sisters, Thelma Baker, Ethel Gandy, and Bonnie Bryant and two brothers: Wilton and Oren Green.
