Watch the Tribute Ethel "Penny" Gandy August 14, 1910 - April 07, 2012 Funeral Services for Mamie Ethel “Penny” Gandy, 101, of Lovington, NM will be held on Thursday, April 12, 2012 at 10:00 am at 3rd and Central Church of Christ with Charles Ivie, minister of Tatum Church of Christ and David Stewart of Good Samaritan Center officiating. Burial will follow at 3:30 CST at Resthaven Cemetery in Lubbock, TX. Mrs. Gandy was born in Jacksboro, Texas on August 14, 1910 to Bernice Mansfield and Mamie (Zellner) Green and passed away on April 7, 2012 at Lovington Good Samaritan Center. She Married Elmer Melvin Gandy in Portales, NM on May 14, 1931. Penny attended school in Bluit, NM and was also the school bus driver. She worked at several hospitals and at the YMCA in El Paso and was a great caretaker. She was the secretary for the Gandy Corporation in Tatum for many years. Penny was a long time member of the Tatum Church of Christ later joining 3rd and Central Church of Christ when she came to live at the Good Samaritan Center. She enjoyed reading her Bible, making quilts and afghans and was a very giving lady. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two sons: Gerald and R.B. Gandy; one grandson: Gregory Gandy; two sisters: Thelma Baker and Bonnie Bryant and two brothers: Wilton and Oran Green. She is survived by one son: Doyle Gandy of San Antonio, TX; one Brother: Beryl and wife Laverne Green of Mammoth, Oregon; two sisters: Alta Gandy of Lovington, NM and Leatha and husband Clarence Thompson of Portales, NM; four grandchildren: Rodney and Russell Gandy, both of San Antonio, TX; Mike Govern of San Antonio, TX and Melody and husband Steve Bunce of Sedro Wooly, Washington; six great- grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 11th from 8:00 am until 8:00 pm.
