Funeral services for Scott Brooks, 76, of Lovington, NM will be held on Wednesday, June 7, 2017 at 10:00 am at 3rd & Central Church of Christ with David Stewart officiating. Burial will follow at Lovington Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Kirby-Smith-Rogers Funeral Home. Scott was born on July 7, 1940 in Brownfield, Texas to Johnnie F. and Martha (Womack) Brooks and passed away on June 2, 2017 at the Good Samaritan Center in Lovington. He worked on a ranch when he was young and really liked the ranching life. He loved horses and all cowboy and western things. He enjoyed reading western novels and watching western shows on TV. Scott liked to fly and had a friend who had a plane when he was younger and they took many flying excursions together. He married Mary Back on February 14, 1986 in Lovington with Bro. Harry Pittam performing the marriage ceremony. They have shared thirty one years together. Scott was a heavy equipment operator and also worked for several companies as a truck drive,r such as P & D and Groendyke and was a heavy equipment operator for Lea County. He was very talented and adept at running all heavy equipment and that was one of his greatest joys. He had a good sense of humor and liked teasing others. He was a Dallas Cowboy fan, wore baseball type caps, liked playing cards, fishing and music by the Statler Brothers. He was a member of 3rd & Central Church of Christ for many years and his greatest love was being with his wife, children and grandchildren as he was a very devoted family man.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Johnnie & Martha Brooks and one brother: Roy Brooks.
Surviving him is his wife, Mary of the home; two daughters: Tanya and husband Kevin Horn of Flagstaff, AZ, Sherri and husband Tony Bunch of Hobbs, NM; five sons: Marty and wife LeAnn Brooks of San Angelo, TX; Shannon and wife Belinda Brooks of Justin, TX, Dan Horne of Borger, TX; Tom and wife Gail Horne of Stinnett, TX and Randy Horne of Auburn, WA; one brother: Donnie and wife Glenda Brooks of Kemp, TX and a sister-in-law: Linda Brooks of Lovington; nineteen grandchildren, twenty-eight great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, June 6th from 11:00 am-7:00 pm with family in residence from 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm at the funeral home.
