Obituary of Ismael Garcia

Ismael "El Abuelo" Garcia February 27, 1942 - October 07, 2016 Funeral services for Ismael “El Abuelo” Estrada Garcia, 74, of Lovington, NM will be held on Friday, October 14, 2016 at 10:00 am at St. Thomas Catholic Church with Father Redentor Molina officiating. Burial will follow at Lovington Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Kirby-Smith-Rogers Funeral Home. Mr. Garcia was born in Vado de Pierda, Chihuahua, Mexico on February 27, 1942 to Juan Jurado and Bernarda (Estrada) Garcia and passed away in Odessa, TX on October 7, 2016. He was better known as “El Abuelo” to all his friends and family. He came to Lovington in 1958 and had been employed with several different companies here, Gandy’s, Bigham Roustabout, also Thomas Griffin in the pecan orchards and several others. He learned to drive at a very young age and became the chauffeur for a large majority of his family, especially the young nieces and nephews and he enjoyed driving around in his red pickup with his much loved dog ”Spot”. Ismael was a big joker and loved to tease his family and friends. He had amazing patience with the nieces and nephews and they enjoyed his great sense of humor. He was a big sports fanatic and liked the Dallas cowboys and especially boxing personality “Canelo”. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother: Jesus Garcia. Surviving him is one son; one brother: Eusebio Garcia of Tucson, AZ; four sisters: Delma Soto and Janie Hidalgo both of Lovington; Teresa and husband Andy Garcia of Hobbs, NM and Mary and husband Salvador Asebedo Sr. of Tatum, NM and numerous loving nieces and nephews. Visitation will be on Thursday, October 13, 2016 from 10:00 am until rosary time at 7:00 pm at the funeral home.
