Obituary of Jose Richard Garcia

Jose Richard Garcia March 18, 1951 - June 19, 2017 Funeral services for Jose Richard Garcia, 66, of Lovington, NM will be held on Saturday, June 24, 2017 at 10:00 am at Kirby-Smith-Rogers Funeral Home Chapel with Jr. Contreras officiating. Burial will follow at Lovington Cemetery. Mr. Garcia was born in Junction, Texas on March 18, 1951 to Pilar and Maria (Enriquez) Garcia and passed away in Hobbs, NM on June 19, 2017. He grew up in Junction, later moving to Hobbs and attending school there, then getting his GED from NMJC. Jose married Teresa Cataño on December 17, 1993 in Seminole, TX and they have shared 23 years together. He farmed in Seminole and was the manager for Higginbotham Watermelon Farms where they were the originators of growing seedless watermelons. He has spent the last thirty five years in West Texas and Lea County. He enjoyed fishing and football; liked the Miami Dolphins; enjoyed his dogs and was a big jokester! His greatest joy was being a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He was a God-fearing man and thanked God everyday for his life. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends. Jose was preceded in death by his parents; two daughters: Beatrice Dehoyos and Evangelina Garcia; two brothers: Leo Garcia and Orlando Garcia and two sisters: Amelia Castillo and Loretta Albrecht. Surviving him is his wife, Teresa, of the home; two sons: Robert Garcia of Lubbock and Richard and wife Lori Garcia also of Lubbock; two daughters: Delilah and husband Rudy Garcia of Lovington, Maria Garcia of Ft. Worth, TX and one step-daughter: Claudia and husband Ray Orosco of San Angelo, TX; two brothers: Valentine and wife Edith Garcia of Irving, TX and Pilar Jr. and wife Patricia Garcia of San Antonio, TX; one sister: Tammy and husband Cruz Chavez of San Angelo, TX; eleven grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held on Friday, June 23, 2017 from 11:00 -7:00 pm at the funeral home
