Obituary of Vada Mae Gilchrist

Vada Mae Gilchrist May 16, 1928 - August 07, 2015 Memorial services for Vada Mae Gilchrist, 87, of Lovington, NM will be held on Monday August 24, 2015 at First Baptist Church at 10:00 am with Bro. Harry Pittam officiating. Burial will follow at Resthaven Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Kirby-Smith-Rogers Funeral Home. Mrs. Gilchrist was born on May 16, 1928 in Buffalo Springs, Texas to Ramon Earl and Hettie Mae (Lyles) Hilburn and passed away in Hobbs, NM on August 7, 2015. She attended school in Shannon, TX and at eight years of age her family came to Lovington to make their home. Vada graduated from Lovington High School and while in school she sang in the High School Choir and acted in the Junior and Senior high school plays. Vada was very outgoing and loved dancing, sewing and dating. She went to work for her Dad as a secretary when she was a junior in High school at the cotton gins. She was a long time member of First Baptist Church and she recently had been a resident of Lovington Good Samaritan Center. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Howard Gilchrist; one brother: Ramon Lendon Hilburn and one daughter, Ramona Diane Spears Becker. Vada is survived by three sisters: Virgie Marie and husband Leo Parchman of San Antonio, TX; Thelma Lee and husband Glen Scott of Lovington and Zelma Ree and husband George Teague of Lovington; Also one grandson: Raymond Charles Becker of Colorado Springs, Colorado and a host of nephews, nieces and other family members.
