Obituary of Stanley Louie Gooch

Stanley Louie Gooch May 17, 1929 - January 25, 2010 Obit for Stanley Louie Gooch Funeral services for Stanley Louie Gooch, 80, of Tatum, NM will be held on Wednesday, January 27, 2010 at 2:00 pm at Kirby-Smith-Rogers Funeral Home Chapel in Lovington. Russell Hill, VistaCare Chaplain will officiate. Burial will follow at Twin Oaks Cemetery in Artesia, NM. Mr. Gooch was born on May 17, 1929 in Wichita Falls, TX to Harvey and Vera Lillian (McNew) Gooch and passed away at his residence on Monday, January 25, 2010. He served in the Army as the bugler, playing by ear. He also played the harmonica and accordion. He and his brother started Gooch Tank in Artesia and then later moved to Tatum and owned Stan’s Automotive and also ran the Exxon gas station and was a volunteer for the Tatum Fire and Ambulance Service. He was a member of the Tatum Nazarene Church and he loved the Lord. He raised his children with love and understanding. He never met a stranger, treated everyone as a friend and enjoyed fishing, camping, and dancing. He loved life and was happy whatever he was doing. Now he is gone into the “Unseen Hands.” He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, five brothers and one sister. He is survived by one son: Stanley Jr. and wife Shanna Gooch of Carlsbad, NM, two daughters: Vera and husband Choya Young of Tatum, NM and Patty and husband Clarence Dornan of Carlsbad, NM; Six grandchildren: Stanley Gooch III of Miami, OK; Shae and husband Ernie Flanigan of Carlsbad, NM; Skie and husband Levi Davis of Carlsbad, NM; Stoney Clayton of Belen, NM; Dalton Gooch of Carlsbad and Matthew Ellis of Tatum, NM and two great grandchildren: McKenzie Davis and Drake Flanigan both of Carlsbad, NM. Visitation will be Tuesday, January 26, 2010 from 11:00 am until 8:00 pm at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorials may be sent to VistaCare Hospice at 1515 Calle Sur, Hobbs, NM 88240.
