Mettie Glenn Granath August 02, 1934 - December 11, 2015 A celebration of life service for Mettie Glenn Granath, 81, of Lovington, NM will be held on Saturday, January 9, 2016 at 3:00 pm at the home of Neil and Ginger Granath, 1100 West Ave K, Lovington, NM, with a meal following. Mrs. Granath was born on August 2, 1934 to Olin G. and Elma (Brooks) Hardin in the home her father built on Ave F in Lovington in 1928 and she passed away on December 11, 2015 in the same home where she was born. She was the youngest of four daughters. Being raised in Lovington, she attended Lovington schools and was the football homecoming queen when she was a junior in high school in 1950-51. She was also a varsity high school cheerleader. On June 10, 1961, she married the love of her life, Pat Granath at First Christian Church in Lovington, of which she was a life-long member. Mettie loved the Lord and loved serving Him through her volunteer work at First Christian Church during various times through her life. She also volunteered as a den leader for the Tatum Cub Scout Troop when her sons were young. She loved baking and was an expert at making her signature Christmas candy every year. Her pies were famous and loved by all and were meticulously homemade right down to the crusts and usually filled with homegrown fruit and pecans from her own trees. Also besides baking, her other hobbies included sewing, drawing, painting, gardening and visiting with friends. Mettie enjoyed working outside the home as a bank teller and at the Lea County Clerk’s office, but her greatest joy was being a wife and a homemaker and raising her three sons and eventually being a grandmother and spending time with her grandchildren. She had a great sense of humor and a contagious laugh, making everyone who visited with her feel at home. She would always have a pot of coffee going for anyone who would stop by and especially loved visiting with her childhood friends, many of whom still live in Lovington. After becoming “empty nesters”, she and Pat enjoyed traveling. They also took up square dancing and her passion for sewing showed as she handmade her layered circle skirts for their dances. She loved road trips in their RV and especially to an annual family reunion in Pie Town, NM. Their adventures continued when they drove to Kenai, Alaska one summer. Mettie was deeply loved by her husband, sons and grandchildren and all her friends and she will be dearly missed. She was preceded in death by her parents; three sisters: Bessie Frank Young, Sally Virginia Naylor; Johnie Brooks Martin and one grandchild: Gabriel Neil Granath. Surviving her are her husband, Pat of the home; three sons: Glenn and wife Kimberly of Spring, TX, Neil and wife Ginger of Lovington, NM and Todd and wife Elsie of Rio Rancho, NM; nine grandchildren: Keeley Gallo, Kerby Granath, Madeleine Granath, Abigail Granath, Emma Granath, Liam Granath, Diego Granath, Lucas Granath and Marcos Granath. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a charity of your choice.
